It is a story about a sixteen-year-old boy, Thom, finding himself and his interests. Sometimes he's nasty - dumping long-time friend Kirsti - but often he's just misunderstood. As a lot of teenage boys are, he is angry at the world and believes he has only one true friend now - the overly-confident and often-cruel Joshua King. The two boys grow obsessed with one another, which leads to confusion and heartache for both.
I started this book in the winter of 2004 but after writing a third of the book I abandoned it. It was around the time when I was at local gigs every week and I wanted to write a story in that world. Unfortunately my money dried up and so did my social life for a while and the world I'd created in the book no longer existed for me. But, a year later, I re-read the 100 pages I already had written and decided to complete it.
